can anyone help me out i was planing a visit to cambodia flying into phnom p staying for 3 days then on to sihanoukvill for about 18 days but on reading forums i gather that there is not much to do there we like to visit tourist sights or hire a moped for part of the day then chill out is 18 days to long?,so i was thinking of spending part of the time in phu quoc island or is there more to do in phu quoc, but how do i go about getting there would it prove to difficult,
would love to hear some ideas dont know what to do
advise needed 1st visit
hi there we were there two weeks ago,i could have done with more time, you can go to an island for a few days,we went to lazy beach,it was fantastic, and you could lose yourself in kep for at least a week,so yes 18days easy
advise needed 1st visit
Hi, I personally would find 18 days too long in Sihanoukville. As the previous post suggested you can easily get to Kep and Kampot, but to be honest the charms of Kep passed me by and with Bokor closed right now there goes another day or so of excusions.
The islands off the coast can be nice to visit, koh russei is nice and so is koh rung samloum, koh rung itself is spectacular, but there%26#39;s nowhere to stay.
Phu Quoc island is the best of the Cambodian islands, except of course it%26#39;s owned by Vietnam! There was no easy way to get there from Sihanoukville but there is talk of starting a link between the town and the island, otherwise you%26#39;d have to get a vietnam visa and get there via vietnam, very time consuming. There was no link last year, but maybe there is now.
Koh Kong province is worth exploring and there are some very pleasant and laid back islands off the coast.
Hi there, i think 18 days in sinhoukville is too long, but thats just me, as for kompot, its not that great, full of angry dogs barking, and very dimly lit at night. I can reccomend phu quoc as a nice relaxing island indeed, i went from phu quoc into cambodia via a new border at ha tien it was easy to do, i guess you will still have to pre arrange your vietnames visa if your going the other way, the only problem i can see is that if your leaving to go home via cambodia you will need a multi entry visa or just pay twice. Phu quoc really is nice, the food there is very good, and there you can rent a bike for about 8-10 dollars per day and drive round the island ( great fun indeed)
also you didnt mention that you were going to visit siem reap ( angkor wat temples ) its a must if you go to cambodia
hope this helps
hi there
thanks for your advise i did fancy phu quoc more than sihanoukvill and i think that you have swayed me to go to phu quoc so i will have to travel from phnom p to phu quoc so does that mean it will be easier to get to
Hi by going from phnom penn to phu quoc instead of sinhoukville will save you some time, but i really think you could visit both places, its sort of on the way, i say sort of because i think its about and extra 4 hours (dont quote me on that ho !!) as i wouldnt like to be in sinhoukville for 18 days i would also say that 18 days on phu quoc would be too much. If you have 21 days on your trip dont rule out a trip to saigon or a trip down the mekong , especially seeing as you have paid for your
veitnamese visa, the countryside in both vietnam and cambodia are stunning
food for though !!!
Hi Hairy,
Jersey to Cambodia is a long way to go to miss visiting Angkor - have you been there already.
If not please do yourself a favour and investigate a couple of days in siem Reap - the temples of Angkor are THE most amazing things I have ever experienced.
happy planning
helen
