hotel in siem reap

I am booking an Indo China trip for myself and my husband this December - Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and then some down time in Langkawi. I have reserved hotels in several places (except for Saigon)but

I can%26#39;t settle on a suitable hotel for our three nights in Siem Reap and am now so over researched and confused that I can%26#39;t even decide on the type of hotel - standard/boutique/quirky etc! It must have a pool (preferably not too tiny and overlooked like many of them seem to be)reasonably quiet, not too many families and young children and close enough to the centre to be able to wander out for dinner and drinks. First thought was the Shinta Mani (Hotel de la Paix too expensive)then Viroth%26#39;s (but pool looks enclosed and overlooked and small and I bet the beds are rock hard - I have back problems) then the Victoria Angkor which might be overun by childrenor tour groups(late January).

Can some kind soul help before I completely loose the plot and have to check myself into a rest home?!

Shinta Mani%26#39;s pool not overlooked, but quite small, even so it%26#39;s a really nice hotel and close to the centre of things, generally no young childred and usually the %26#39;seen but not heard variety%26#39;.

You might consider the golden banana%26#39;s new resort place, which is even closer to bar street etc. childred are nowhere to be seen, for half the price.

We stayed at Day Inn and loved it. Huge pool with ground floor units opening out poolside. The buffet breakfast is fantastic also. They had an internet special on when we booked.

We have some pics and stories of our trip here... www.bobandjanette.com which may help.

Happy %26amp; safe travels

Hello,

We just got back from SR. We stayed at the Somadevi Angkor Hotel $%26amp; Spa. It has a very nice pool and a bar by the pool too, I should say, the bar is in the pool.

I got a very nice, clean room, with a balcony that overlooking the garden and pool on the 4th floor, nice air conditioning. This hotel is about 10 minutes by taxi or 20 minutes by tuk tuk to Angor Wat ruin, walking distance to the night market. This hotel is in the center of the town. We also got buffet breakfast, both western and asian. Well, $47 per night. You will like it, if you do not expect too much from it. We also got a good tuk tuk driver too, reasonal price.

Have a nice trip.

Hi Ranger...

I%26#39;ll second Job %26amp; Janette%26#39;s vote for the Day Inn. We were there in September and loved it!

Planning on a return trip next year - will absolutely stay there again.

happy planning

Helen

We also stayed at the Day Inn in December and enjoyed it. Yes, rooms all face out on to the pool but I don%26#39;t recall seeing anyone sitting out on the balcony and looking out. The pool is a nice size, and hardly anyone seemed to use it so often we had it to ourselves.

Thanks for the advice from everyone that responded. It%26#39;s appreciated.
