Hi,
We are a couple needing help with choosing accommondation for our holiday in late March 2009.
Please recommend 4 star hotels with good central location (eg within walking distance to places to eat and people watch at night).
Our budget is US$60 for a double room for both cities.
Also, how much should we pay for a day tour in Siem Reap (to sightsee Angkor Wat, other temples and Tonle Sap) and a day tour in Phnom Penh. We have been receiving some quotes and they are all different!
Lastly, has anyone seen the traditional show and dance? Is it good and worth going? If so, where in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap can we see it and can we buy tickets on the day.
Many thanks.

Have a look at this link and peruse riverside hotels in Phnom Penh. Not that there is construction going on and in some places you will have a lovely view of ABC Beer billboards.

In Phnom Penh, you can spend a day wlaking around seeing the Wat Phnom, The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda next door %26amp; the museum. The aforementioned places are all within walking distance of the riverside area. If you want, you can hire a tuk-tuk to take you to the Russian Market and Tuol Sleng (the Genocide Museum), which is right nearby. A tuk-tuk shouldn%26#39;t cost more than $7 for a few hours if you are going that distance. (They will wait for you while you visit) There are tuk-tuk guys lining the street and they will jump for your business. Be sure to bargain with them. If they say no, just walk away and ask the next guy.
Veiyo Tonle at the riverside has children from the orphanage they support perform Apsara dance almost nightly. You can go and ask in advance. Their amok(fish or meat in coconut milk) is amazing, as is their other food.
In Siem Reap, yo uwill have to buy an Angkor Wat pass in order to get into the temple complex. It is $20 per day ($40 for 3 days and $60 for a one-week pass). Instead fo going to see Tonle Sap, spend your day enjoying the temples. It is a HUGE area. Hiring a tuk-tuk driver for the day will be around $13, add more for an early-morning pick-up. Throw in a guide and it%26#39;ll cost you another $25 per day(but you can do it wihtout a guide). At your hotel in Siem Reap, you can inquire about the Apsara dancing. There are about a dozen places that put on various shows and have dinner/buffet packages as well. Check out link above for Siem Reap hotels and also have at look at this one

Have fun planning!

Just came back from Cambodia and stayed at Angkorland hotel in Siem Reap. It was $60 per night (we bargained down from $80) and very clean and nice. There was a large swimming pool and a huge breakfast spread included with the rate. It%26#39;s also in a great location, on a quiet side street, but just minutes from the night market. You will need transport to get to the temples, so it%26#39;s in a good location for that as well.
