Khmer Rubies???

Does anyone know a good place to purchase one? Since we have been apart for so long, my hubby said I can possibly get one.

Khmer Rubies???

First- do you know anything about buying gemstones? It will benefit you a great deal ifyou do. There are a lot of shops in the market in Siem Reap as well as Cental Market in Phnom Penh (where I have a lot of my jewelry made). Make sure it%26#39;s a gem shop, not a souvenir shop. You can purchase loose stones and have them set or buy a set stone, usually in 14k or 18k gold. The clear stones in the settings will be cubic zirconiums, not diamonds. Prices are negotiable, but it is good to know what you are looking for to begin with. Good luck!

We know a little. Any tips you could give would be of great help.

I don%26#39;t think they are going to be selling you glass or anything like that at the gem stores, but it%26#39;s good to do the research on what to normally pay per carat for something like that. You can also bring old gold jewelry (14k or 18k) and have loose stones set to save some money (they barely charge anything for labor!) which is what I always do. My jewelry and my photographs are always the best souvenirs of my travels! :-)

Oh what an awesome idea! Thank you so much for your input, I feel better about purchasing something. I am with you on my jewlery and photos!!!

there are plenty of gem shops in pp and siem reap..the price displayed includes the commission they will pay to the person who takes you there..what is best to do is go have a look around at half a dozen different shops noting the location on a map..next day go there without a tuk tuk or guide with you...the shops will discount if dont have to pay a commission //commissions can run as high as 50 % to be aware of this..buying gold is easy as it goes on weight and caret..

Also have a look at Mrs Muny%26#39;s jewellery shop in the Russian Markets, she has been popular with the Australian Embassy workers for many years. I have a photo of a ring I had made there and a pendant I bought on my Cambodia shopping price guide.

Actually, what is commonly found in Cambodia is zircon, which is mined in the country%26#39;s Ratanakiri province. This is a semi-precious stone that comes in a range of colors (I particularly like the light blue). It is not cubic zirconium (aka fake diamonds).

Some of them are, CZs MAL. My point is, don%26#39;t think you%26#39;re getting diamonds in those settings.
