Dear experts -
i%26#39;m planning my itinerary in Vietnam/Cambodia.
from Ho Chi Minch, where i will spend 3 nights i want to go to Siem Reap/Angkor Wat.
My question is: is one day enough to explore the Mekong Delta in order to do 3 nights at Siem Reap or shell i do 2 days excursion of the Mekong Delta and 2 nights at Siem Reap? thanks, Adele
Mekong delta or Angkor Wat
Oh definitely spend the time at Angkor Wat.There are 3-day passes for the temple compound so definitely go and spend all your time there. It is truly amazing! :-D
Mekong delta or Angkor Wat
I%26#39;m with Maneki-neko on this one. Whilst the Mekong is a unique experience it pales in comparison to the beauty of Angkor Wat and the other nearby temples.
A 3 day temple pass is an economical way to see the temples and if purchased after 5pm you can stay in the park that evening for free to watch sunset and get a headstart. Pass is US$40 for the 3 days.
We have some pics and stories of our trip to the Mekong and Siem Reap here... www.bobandjanette.com which may help.
Happy %26amp; safe travels
I just came back two days ago from SE Asia, including the mekong delta and the angkor wat.
I really don%26#39;t know what you are into - more culture or history? I personally would not miss any of those two. But, if I have to juggle between the two, I%26#39;d do two days in Mekong Delta and one day in Angkor Wat because I%26#39;m more into current culture and people.
I had three days in Siem Reap - one day for the siem reap town and surrounding villages/lakes, and two days of temples after temples. The two days of temples were way too much for me and my friends as well. We were definitely templed out and exhausted from the heat and the walks. However, if you know you love (not like) buildings, temples, history, and art, do two days in angkor wat and a quick day trip to mekong delta. But, be aware, a day trip to mekong delta will not compare to an overnight one unless you get a private day trip that doesn%26#39;t cover sales/factory stops.
It%26#39;s too bad you have so little time... The CuChi tunnel in HCMC is also another great place to visit.
1 day is not enough to explore Mekong delta, 2 nights in siem reap is really short. You have to choose between the 2 options.
I would choose Siem reap, 2 days to visit the temples of Angkor and one day trip on the tonle sap.

My vote: day trip to the Mekong out of HCMC then 3 nights in SR
Don%26#39;t miss the presidential palace in HCMC - something out of Austin Powers!
happy planning

Dear friends/experts....thanks so much for all your tips! i found it very useful. I think i will do 3 days at Siem Reap and 3 days at HCMC (of which one spent to visit the Mekong delta). Hopefully will be enough! Thanks a lot...ciao, Adele
Coming from London to HCMC is already the biggest expense in your trip. If at all possible, try to add 2 or three days more to your trip to see more of the Mekong and Siem Reap.
Also see if you can do a 2days/1night tour of the Mekong travel from HCMC which ends ends in P. Penh on the second day and from there proceed to S. Reap.
Try this site: www.sinhcafevn.com
Thanks a lot for your tips, it would be nice to cross the cambodian border as part of hte Mekong delta excursion. the link you sent to me is very helpful and cheap, did you use their excursions? they seem really cheap, bit scared to be honest...
have a great trip. Cheer!
Hi Micia,
I joined the 2 night /3 day tour. Yes it was a budget tour and we enjoyed it very much. The hotels were just that : budget hotels with no lifts as a lot of the buget hotels are in the region. It was comfortable as it had airconditioning, hot/cold shower and private toilet. You can upgrade it by paying a little bit more but we did not fimd it necessary. You can even arange for a home stay.
There many other tour operators in HCMC offering similiar tours at similiar prices and at higher rates as well. I cannot comment on the others as I have not tried them. You can do more research at Trip Advisor.
Which ever one you choose, I am sure you will enjoy it.
