I am planning to fly Bangkok-Siem Reap and was wondering if Bangkok Airways%26#39; turbo prop planes are safe! Anyone with an experience to share please.
Thanks in advance.
Is Bangkok Airways safe?
Just curious, what kind of experience are you looking for? My wife and me have taken five flights with them (including one on a turbo prop) and are still alive. Does this make you feel safer? ;)
Is Bangkok Airways safe?
bangkok airways%26#39;s turbo-props are perfectly safe and they use them on lots of their routes, they are quite cramped though. If you are flying bkk-rep then retime your trip so you fly on one of the airbus 320s or 319s that they use on this route if you have any concerns, but I have flown them many times with no problems
Bangkok Airways is a great airline with great service. Do they still have a lounge for their passengers? Last time the wife and I flew with them they provided drinks and snacks free of charge. We thought this was a nice touch. And they also provided refreshments at the departure gate from a little trolley. Not sure if they still provide this service.
Bit pricey, but good airline. :)
billyboy57... yes they still provide the lounges, although the snacks are a little scarcer these days. They have also reserected their blue ribbon service (business) on some routes, where they provide a nicer lounge.
Totally safe, but expensive!!
We flew them last April and they were perfectly fine.
Safer than a tarantula
Bangkok Airways (PG) flies MD-80 planes between BKK %26amp; REP.
IMO the service was far superior to Thai Airways (which departs late), the stewardesses much nicer, more beautiful %26amp; they have fantastic uniforms (bright dark perwinkle blue w/ Emilio Puccini silk blouses), better food, cleaner planes.
They are expensive BKK/REP because they were granted a monopoly on that route because they BUILT the REP airport terminal %26amp; paved the airport road that leads to Siem Reap.
I think their monopoly expires in 2012.
The carriers to be wary of are the discount Asian airlines who hire inexperienced non- Thai pilots that crash in rainstorms due to ignoring the directives of Air Traffic Control ... like the one in Phuket in 2007.
Bangkok Air has very experienced Thai pilots.
No worries.
Put it this way, safer than Qantas! In my experience Bangkok Airways is an excellent airline, much better than the European low cost airlines and I would not hesitate to use them. They have a Discovery Airpass which can work out very good value.
