travellers cheques

Can I cash Australian Dollar Travellers Cheques in Cambodia. If I try to buy US Dollars over here I can only get 61 cents to the dollar instead of the current rate of 65 cents. I don%26#39;t want to waste money on exchange rates twice.

You can bring your ATM card to withdraw money at any machine in Phnom Penh, or you can exchange money at the money changers. Don%26#39;t bother with traveler%26#39;s checks...

As suggested , you can withdraw US dollars at ATM machines around the city ANZ charges $2.00 per transaction , others have no charge . Check with your bank for thier charges for foriegn ATM use , they may have a prefered bank for you to use .On the way into town from the airport , you just ask the driver to stop at an ATM machine , they all know what one of those is LOL .

Traveller check days are done , that is now a part of 20th century history.I say this based on my recent SE Asea travels.

Dave-

I remember the last time using travelers checks- it was in 1985 and it took me forever to get the darn thing cashed at a Japanese bank! :-O

Take cash.US dollars are accepted everywhere.

Take your credit card. For large purchases or hotel accounts.

Take your ATM card and use as above have suggested.

Always have two methods of payment in case an ATM gobbles your card up..But forget about Trav.Cheques.

You may also like to use the new Cash Passport or ANZ Travel Card.Pre paid debit card.Advantage is that you load it up in your choice of 4 currencies, and the exchange rate is set then, so you can budget more accurately.

There are fees. But then there are fees for everything and peace of mind in not havng to carry large sums of cash around is worth a fee.

Have a great trip.
