Traveller%26#39;s..
This is my first time to siam reap, could you please suggest a medium budget hotel which close to the bar, shopping area and easy to find cambodian food..
We%26#39;ll be there from 12-15 April, using train from BKK.
Wishin to make a memorable trip with my friends there..
Advise for hotel Pleasee..
A good hotel close to Old market is Steung Siem Reap hotel which will cost about 60$ per night.
If you are looking for something a bit cheaper then try Angkor Holiday Hotel or Casa Angkor Hotel.
If you are looking for something cheaper near Old market and pub street than you may want to try a guesthouse such as Shadow of Angkor guesthouse. The better deals are places away from the Old market area.
Advise for hotel Pleasee..
I can suggest two places where I have stayed and each is 5 min walking from Pub Street: Golden Banana B%26amp;B (not the two boutique properties but the bed %26amp; breakfast) and The Villa Siem Reap which has various rooms in a very broad price range. Have a great time!
We were in Siem Reap in Feb this year and only returned to Canada last week Thursday. We stayed at Encore Angkor Guest House located just 200m from Pub Street and all kinds of shopping and restaurants. Check out their website: www.encoreangkor.com. We just loved it. It is only 6 mos old, clean as a whistle, large rooms with a/c, swimming pool and includes a full course breakfast (what we think is a full course). Reasonably priced and we highly recommend this place to everyone. The owners/managers including their staff are so friendly and accomodating as well.
A lot of people recommend the Day Inn Angkor resort, very close to the centre, I can second the Golden Banana suggestion, especially as they have now opened their restaurant and Ei8th Rooms right by the market is very good and great value
I also stayed once at Day Inn and really enjoyed it. But I think it is more for those people looking for a more %26#39;hotel%26#39; experience versus a guest house or smaller property. And it is a bit longer walking than some of the other places mentioned.
Wow.. thanks for sharing with me :)
I will check each of your suggestion.
It seems, so many people interested with siam reap. Could you share it with me, what the most memorable activities that you guys did?
I still don%26#39;t have any clue what to do except going to angkor wat, quad adventure or maybe riding a horse while enjoying the sunset.
I%26#39;ll be 4D3N at siam reap, do you have any suggestion for the shopping area, good restaurant or any other interesting places at siam reap?
Thank a bunch..
Would second the recommendation for Encore Angkor.
Stayed there in December, single woman travelling alone and loved it. Really handy for shops, bars, markets etc. but in a little side street off the main road that is quiet at night.
Lovely clean rooms, owners speak excellent english and other staff are helpful and friendly.
Have just booked to return for six nights in January next year.
Here are a few totally alternative things you can think of if you want to use 1/2 - 1 day of your time for something really remarkable
1) check out a couple of the very cheap alternative activities offered by The Villa Siem Reap (also for non-guests): ';A Day in the Life'; and ';Art for Life'; (I am in no way associated with The Villa; I really enjoyed participating in their ';Art for Life';)
2) If you can raise some money from friends and family or can spare it on your own, check out the community-based activities from the hotel Shinta Mani. Visiting the villages and families where the water wells were dug, and sewing machines were given for home based businesses or school supply packages and bikes for kids to get to school were distributed was an impressive and humbling experience. The same kind of thing you can do with a great organization called the Ponheary Ly Foundation if you have an affinity for children%26#39;s education. (again not associated with the hotel or the foundation - just found my experiences with both extremely enriching)
3) Spend some time at the Butterflies Garden Restaurant (butterfliesofangkor.com/social_mission.html). Email them in advance and ask when the village kids come to bring and release the new butterflies or catch the butterfly dance show (again, not associated with the Cafe, just love it there).
I can give you some more suggestions like these. Feel free to msg me via my Tripadvisor profile or see my own personal weblog (non-commercial! angkortuktuk.wordpress.com)
