Help! Planning a trip this summer

Hey TripAdvisor people -

I am a teacher and therefore only have time to do vacations in June/July/August (I know, poor me, right?) Anyway, I want to go to Cambodia, but have heard that it%26#39;s next to impossible during July because the country ';shuts down'; because of the rainy season. Is this true? I was hoping to do Thailand and Cambodia in about two weeks at the beginning of July. Hot and humid doesn%26#39;t bother me as much as not being able to see the temples because I can%26#39;t get there... advice, please!

I was in Cambodia in October - end of the rainy season - and it rained every day, some days it rained quite hard but it did not rain all day long.

Just make sure you take a poncho or an umbrella and you will be fine. The temples get a bit slippery so be extra careful when walking around.

I had no problems getting to any of the temples, the only one I did not see was Koh Ker. The road we took between Banteay Srei and the Rolous Group was very muddy but we made it trough.

Our trip was late May/June last year and the weather was perfect, so aim for earlier rather than later. It was an amazing trip and can%26#39;t wait to return.

We have lots of pics, maps and stories of our Thailand and Cambodia trips here ... www.bobandjanette.com that may help.

Happy %26amp; safe travels

I went way back in 2002 in July, was fine? Rain not too much of a problem either but we only did Siem REap and Phnom Penh. This year we will be there again mid June to mid July, as like you l have to go in School hol%26#39;s. I don%26#39;t expect too many problems although it may restrict our trip to Mondulkiri, but we have alternate plans if this is the case?

Rainy weather won%26#39;t stop you seeing temples! umerella and poncho%26#39;s as mentioned although l find a poncho too hot!

Tourism is booming year-round in Cambodia, and it seems more people may prefer to avoid the hot season than the rainy season! Your only problem will be if you attempt to venture to far-off places as some of the roads will be underwater or too muddy to traverse. If you stay in the main tourist areas there will be no problems.

Ponchos, ew, much too sultry. Bring clothes that dry easily (synthetic fibers), watersafe hiking sandals and that folding umbrella.

We don%26#39;t think it is not a poor thing for you. Your vacation in June/July/August is a good one too. Even though June-August is a hot and wet season in Cambodia, it is not too bad to come. It does not rain every day and , still, there are a lot of tourists visiting the temples in this season.

So, please bring along suitable clothes and neccessary materials with you when you come to Cambodia. The sites are very awesome.

Cambodia opens the whole year for tourists no matter it is hot or rainy season. It is not true at all that the country closes down during rainy season.

Please organize your trip well before you come. It is advisable you should ask a professional local trave agent to arrange your trip.

Hope you will enjoy your vacation in Cambodia.

Thanks,

this is so close to touting it%26#39;s not funny.

you don%26#39;t need to contact a professional travel agent.

just search through this forum (the search function above is great)for heaps of great information

and check out

canbypublications.com/siemreap/sritinerary.h…

- a great site for all your preliminary research

then you can make your decisions.

as far as guides are concerned - this topic always presents fairly %26#39;heated%26#39; exchanges but the best I%26#39;ve seen here is likening it to visiting the museum - are you the %26#39;get the headphones and listen to the comentary'; kind of tourist or are you the ';i%26#39;ll check out the exhibits on my own - I can always read the guide book kind';. Me, I%26#39;m the second. A good tuk-tuk driver - and there are heaps (and heaps of people here who can recommend one) is also a great source of information.

happy planning
