What's it like...10 nights???

We are looking for a relaxing 10 nights (or so)getaway in July/Aug, with a little luxury - we don%26#39;t want to spend a fortune, so are after a good deal, and was wondering if Sihanokville is the place for us?

We have stayed in Mui Ne in Vietnam a few times, which we loved, %26amp; have looked into Phu Quoc Island (Vietnam) or even a quite part of Phuket (if there is such a thing), but I%26#39;m also looking at any other options.

Would 10 nights be too long to stay here? When is the best time to visit and are there any real resorts? I have read thru the hotels/forums on TA, but it%26#39;s hard to get a grasp on how developed (or not) this place actually is.

Has anyone been to these other places I have mentioned and how do they compare Sihanoukville? OR, can anyone suggest any other places in SE Asia to try?

Many Thanks,

rech:)

Hi there rech

We stayed at the Sokha Beach Resort in Sihanoukville a couple of months ago. Prices were reasonable in my opinion (albeit a little pricey by Cambodian standards) and the resort itself is a very nice 4 star hotel with excellent facilities.

We were in Sihanoukville for 4 nights and found this to be sufficient. The town itself is not overly developed and a bit grotty, but it does have a sort of charm, which is consistent with most towns in Cambodia. Within the town centre you%26#39;ll find a couple of supermarkets, numerous restaurants (mix of local and international food), some clothing stores and a central market selling fruit, toys, clothes etc. I personally think that 10 days is too long for Sihanoukville as there%26#39;s not really much to do there (unless you can picture yourself sitting on a sun lounge for 10 days).

I too stayed in Snooky for 4 nights, which I thought was plenty. I stayed in a cool little bamboo bungalow, and aside from some mediocre snorkeling and a lot of general beach lounging, I drank absurd quantities of beer and feasted on excellent seafood. I think the sealife would be better in Thailand, and there is much more to do there. Go to Snooky in 2 years and I will guarantee it will be resort-o-rama.

I spent 13 days with my wife at the Victory Beach end of Sihanoukville and found it pleasant but lacking in vibrant nightlife and would say a week or less would be sufficient. Looking back I think we would have better going for a week in Pattaya or Phuket before our return to the UK, as we met many men with thai girls doing the %26#39;visa runs%26#39; in Snooky and telling us so many good stories about it over there. Of course we could have gone East and as we%26#39;ve never been to Nam gone and had a few days in HCMC or Nga Trang maybe these options could give you some ideas. We didn%26#39;t do Otres or Ochheutal where I hear its more %26#39;backpackers%26#39; and younger crowd but I suppose you can get some good ideas thru using the TA and browsing on the net. If you go to Sihanoukville I%26#39;d recommend a boat trip from the pier opposite where the Russian plane is in the hanger on Victory Beach, normally leaves about 10 am, a German called Robert runs some good trips from there is his three tier clipper boat and we went with some great people from all corners of the world on it and had a good time and saw some nice Islands. Theres a few bars on Victory Hill (10/15 mins walk from beach) where ex-pats meet have a drink and chat and we often went to Detox, Corner bar or Miely Chenda. Good luck
