Bangkok-Siem Reap by bus

Has anyone done Bangkok-Siem Reap-Bangkok by bus? How bearable is it?

If you buy a bus ticket in Bangkok thru to Siem Reap expect visa and money change scams. you will be invariably be sold to a commission paying guest house after arriving late and have to negotiate with a GH manager who has paid money in advance to get you there!

In low season the situation gets worse; so it’s best to contact your hotel for a car pick up to take you to your chosen hotel.

Going by Public bus or train to Aranyaprathet is best and get a taxi from the border. Only buy your visa when you have passed out of Thailand or better still get an Cambodia E Visa online Ignore the persuasive touts who will tell you otherwise.

Cars from the border and buses are now taking people to a central point in Siem Reap where tuk tuk drivers are now taking people to commission paying guests houses and telling customers that their chosen hotel is closed or not good. I run a small hotel here and almost everyone who comes via Poipet has some kind of problem . The only solution is to book a car in advance which includes an outrageous $20 tax to the authorities, making the cost $60 for the 3 hour journey . At least you will get to your chosen hotel without hassle.

If you want to avoid this you will have to pay the overpriced fares on Bangkok Airways.

It’s better to avoid Thailand altogether and go to Malaysia and fly Air Asia direct to Siem Reap

Siem Reap.

Thanks for the info. Maybe it will be less problematic to have a fully arranged package from Bangkok, that includes hotel, transport and tours.

I would avoid all packages from Bangkok.

The agencies look very good, claim to be TAT Tourist Authority of Thailand agents; but the likelihood of being scammed is still high.

Having taken this trip several times, I second what peace is saying. Don%26#39;t do a tour and don%26#39;t take a bus on the cambodian side, taxi instead.

If you%26#39;re concerned about being able to get a good taxi, have your guesthouse/hotel arrange the pick up.
