I am planning to go to PP for a day from SR. Are the following possible:
Go to PP in the morning--do the major PP sites and return at the end of the day to SR.
Can the above be accomplished by:
Option1: Flying out in the morning and taking a return flight in the evening
Option2: Taking the boat in the morning and taking a return flight in teh evening.
Option3: Taking the boat one afternoon and flying back the next evening.
Which is the best way to do it.
Thank you in advance.
can PP be done in a day
Phnom Penh is one of the easiest cities to walk around in that I have ever been to. With even a basic map downloaded from the internet, you can stand in the main street and feel like you%26#39;re on familiar ground.
I expect that you could spend far more time productively than you%26#39;re allowing yourself in this pleasant little city. We had originally planned an even tighter schedule than yours -- arrive (by bus) 1:30 in the afternoon, leave (by boat) 7:30 next morning. We enjoyed the town so much that we eventually gave up the boat trip and left by the noon bus, but on that first afternoon we were able to check into our hotel, walk to the Palace, take a leisurely tour through the palace complex, catch a tuk-tuk from outside the palace to S21, see this remarkable site (the one ';must-see'; in Phnom Penh), and then walk back to our hotel before the 6:30 p.m. downpour (during which we had dinner). So our second morning was for just wandering pleasantly around at our leisure, looking through the market (don%26#39;t miss the lady selling the baked spiders!), visiting the Victory Gate, checking out the river and the waterfront, buying Thailand DVDs at 3 for $US5 (they are better than the Vietnamese ones, as they are properly packaged and come with all the special feauitures intact) and sampling the French pastries from the cake shops in the middle of town.
Now, there were some parts of town we didn%26#39;t get to visit -- the Killing Fields, for instance -- but our limited experience would lead us to advise you that either Option 1 or Option 3 would be perfectly viable as a way to see the best of Phnom Penh in a twenty-four hour period. I can%26#39;t see Option 2 being feasible -- my understanding is that the boat takes 6 or 7 hours, which means that it would be mid-afternoon when you arrived, and you%26#39;d already be thinking about getting to the airport in time for check-in. Maybe you are talking about a faster boat than the one I know about.
My vote would be Option 3. Stay at the Asia Hotel, as it%26#39;s right in the middle of town, it%26#39;s easy to find, it%26#39;s big and solid and comfortable, and the best rooms have a balcony looking up and down the main street. We arrived without a booking at about 2 p.m., and got an air-conditioned family room (four people) with fridge for $USD15; we couldn%26#39;t have been happier.

1 and 2 seem pretty rushed. 2 is outrageous unless you aren%26#39;t very interested in seeing much in PP. 3 seems more reasonable. If you start early, you can probably get most of PP sight-seeing done in a full day, although it would probably be difficult to get out to the killing fields. Nonetheless, you could get to the national museum and the palace in the morning, have lunch, then get out to Tuol Sleng and the Russian Market for some shopping in the afternoon. There%26#39;s more to see in PP of course, and simply wandering around the area around the museum for a while is worthwhile. Also, in traffic (meaning anytime before 7) it can take a while to get out to the airport, so the later your flight out, probably the better.
One full day is enough to see the sites in PP
Need full 8hrs and start early....
I did Killing Fields, S-21, National Museum, Russian Market, Royal Palace all in one trot. I was busy until 5pm and I started at 8am. (booked an aircon car for $30 - the entire day)
