bangkok to siem reap

Is it possible to take a bus from bangkok to siem reap?

What is it like?

bangkok to siem reap

Yes, it%26#39;s possible. Check out talesofasia.com for lots of info on that route.

Remember that if the price seems too cheap to be true, you%26#39;ll likely get ripped off one way or another!

Bangkok Airways flies this route; quite reasonable I gather (I went as part of a tour so don%26#39;t know exact price).

Actually, most people consider Bangkok Airways to be very expensive for the distance/flight time -- which is perhaps no surprise, given that the airline has a monopoly on the BKK-REP route.

Here is a link from the LP website regarding overland travel from Bangkok to Siem Reap.

It%26#39;s a slow-go in the rainy season, (you don%26#39;t say WHEN you are traveling) but definitely far cheaper and more interesting than flying, if you%26#39;ve got the time. Take the bus from bkk to Poipet (nice bus, nice road) Then take a taxi from Poipet to SR. These taxis can be arranged in advance, otherwise negotiating with the taxi mafia in Poipet is not fun....trip should cost around $25-30. You will have to haggle hard.

I wouldn%26#39;t take the bus from Poipet to Siem Reap, no matter what the season. Read the tales of Asia site before making your decision. I%26#39;ve done it several times and think it%26#39;s fun. Travel light.

how do you arrange for a taxi to siem reap in advance?

I have read that the train to Poipet is a good way to go. Is the bus better?

I booked the Bangkok air discovery airpass and thought it was reasonable around $300 with this route - Bangkok to SiemReap to Phuket overland to Krabi and back to Bangkok. I think it requires a 3 leg minimum. I leave next week so I%26#39;ll post a report upon return.

If you%26#39;re hiring a guide in Siem Reap, they can no doubt handle it for you, or if you%26#39;re traveling alone, go to the LP board and see if anyone wants to share one.

It%26#39;s not a huge problem to negotiate the taxi on arrival. Just smile and be patient. When you clear immigration and come out on the Cambodian side, you%26#39;ll be facing a roundabout with a bunch of taxis parked there and LOTS of touts, including uniformed officers, who you think you should trust, but don%26#39;t. Keep walking to the far side of the roundabout and things greatly improve. Don%26#39;t pay more than $35 or so, no matter what they say, just keep asking different drivers to get your best price.

Also, if you%26#39;re getting your visa on arrival, remember there%26#39;s no need to pay anyone to ';help you get your visa';, just fill out your paperwork at the immigration counter, stick a $20 in your passport and let the nice man at immigration take care of it for you.

Be sure to go to talesofasia.com to get current road condition,s etc.

Once you%26#39;re in your taxi and on your way, I think it%26#39;s a pretty fun road trip.

Saapco announced in 2007 that it was launching a bus service between HCMC and Siem Reap that would take only 8 hours. I have been unable to find information on whether they deliver on this. Their website is in Vietnamese (even when you click on the English button). All other information I can find refers to the initial announcement and not travelers%26#39; experience.

I would be delighted if someone who has booked this or knows more information could respond.

Thanks.
