Hi there, myself and a friend are going to travel around Cambodia for 6 months later on this year, can anyone tell me if the ATMs there take the Travelex cash card, or will we need travellers cheques
Travelex cash card
We were in Cambodia in November 2008, didn%26#39;t have any problems with Travelex card. All ATMs we used were ok. Had a couple of issues in Vietnam with particular branded atms but most were ok.
My daughter is in Siem Reap at the moment and we send her money via the Travelex. The advice I would offer is to get a card loaded with US dollars. All withdrawals in Cambodia are in US$. The terms and conditions on my card advise that there is a 8% adjustment on the exchange rate if the card is in a different currency.
For example, my daughter just drew some US$ and the exchange rate on my statement said it was at US$0.62 to the Australian $. At the time the A$ was being quoted nearer to US$.65. They also charge abour 1% to load the card in the first place.
That being said, I would still recommend the card and intend to use it again in July on my return, albiet a US$ one this time.
Travelex cash card
I would get yoursel to Nationwide and open their Flex account, they dont charge to use their cashcard and credit cards abroad, so you get quite a good deal. If you set up a direct debit payment on your credit card, at least for the min payment, then you can make sure that any payments are made without paying late charges etc
