Hi Richard..
I%26#39;m only guessing, but was it part of a thread by someone called %26#39;lattie%26#39; or something similar.
It got a little heated when I suggested that rather than just posting %26#39;he%26#39;s a great guide%26#39; - that people give a few more details about why he%26#39;s a great guide and how he made your trip so momorable.
I understand our (westerners) notion of doing all we can to help ouur new friends get work, and posting on a forum like this is seen a great way.
however, I feel that the more info we give about our drivers %26amp; guides, the better because prospective clients can really %26#39;get a feel%26#39; for a driver/guide before making contact.
It%26#39;s a daunting task tryng to select a guide/driver because we know there are hundreds to choose from.
The poster I mentioned above took exception to my request for more info - he/she totally misunderstoon my intention. A reply was deleted, someone posted back saying mind your manners, and then within a couple of hours the whole thread was gone.
this is just a guess,
cheers
helen
Wondering why someone deleted recommendation
I think it is mainly because there is a very fine line between a recommendation of a guide/driver and touting. There have been countless new threads these days just to recommend a guide/tuk-tiuk driver, and even one guy advertising his own hotel! This is not the place to sit and gush about how swell one%26#39;s guide was (I am not saying you were guilty of this, Richard), rather to reply to queries of future travelers. Cheers.
