ciggy's and grog

Hi previous travellers to Cambodia and people who live there, eg Odd Ball, Ellenem

When I was in Vietnam I could buy cartons of western cigarettes, eg.Malboro for 150,000VND ($9.30US) and 750ml bottles of vodka for $3 (rip-off of Smirnoff or Absolut). This was off the streets and in supermarkets, not duty free shops.

Is this possible in Cambodia as well?

These would be to bring back for family and friends.

Thanks

Hi Cooperellie,

Can%26#39;t help with grog (spirits by the bottle) prices but can tell you that you can buy grog in a couple of the supermarkets in SR. We did buy beer (400ml cans or thereabouts) were 67c a can for brands like angkor and some of the other asian brands - hand over US$1 and get riel as change - kept our minibar stocked with our own supplies and then put theirs back as we checked out.

Cigs were, (I think) about $1 US a packet

We did buy cartons of cigs at KL airport on the way home, put them on the card and after conversion, the bill was about $17 per carton - sure beats the $80+ we pay here!

happy trip planning

Hi Cooperellie ,

I smoke LM red cancer sticks made in Switzerland , cost is $3.80 per carton of 212 in packs of 14 , packs of 20 , 200 carton cost #4.20 . I drink Bacardi %26#39;Oro%26#39;from the Bahamas , cost $9..00 per litre . Marlboro are available for around the same cost as LM .

Thanks both of you for your replies. Sounds like, compared to Vietnam,ciggy%26#39;s are cheaper and booze is slightly more expensive,(but still really cheap). This all helps with the planning.
